The trail goes up from Vidigal. It is a real hike, not a viewpoint you drive to, and it takes about four hours from meeting to being back down.
It is the most complete panoramic view in Rio, and at first light the city is still lit up under you.

We were in two minds about doing a favela tour, but knowing that we were being showed around by two people who grew up in Rocinha and still live there [...] put our minds at ease.
